Constructing a Laugh

If not ill or depressed I laugh… a lot. It’s my nature. But my sister in law, who is also the BFF, does not. Hardly ever, in fact. Well, unless she sees a video of someone falling. The sort of stuff that makes me cringe. Natural gigglers like myself can have a hard time with non-gigglers.

So I set out to make her laugh.

First, I sent this picture and wrote “I picked this flower for you”.

She replied: “NICE WEED”.

Not put off at all, the next day “Badger helping me clean up the patio” (it’s horrid, no? lots of work left to do if anyone wants to raise their hand?):

No reply at all. Now that’s just rude. At least say something about the dog’s overly long nails. (A personal peeve of hers)

She must be off her meds, so I ramp things up.

“I’m now farming hydroponically”

“YOU CRACK ME UP” says she.

Mission accomplished!

  1. Hi Pam…so good to point out the need and justification to have laughter and joy in our hearts that does so much good for our own well-being and those around us!

Psalm 32:11 “Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!”

Proverbs 15:15 “All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast.”

Psalm 16:8-11 “I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Psalm 59:8 “But you, O Lord, laugh at them; you hold all the nations in derision.”

James 5:13 “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.”

There are many examples in God’s word that show us that He looks upon our laughter fondly; as merriment is a joyous heart and is good medicine for us, in this weary troubled world!

As a boy I was often the one in the family getting them all to laugh with my clowning or impersonations and cheering was practically my middle name almost; even singing in the shower some silly rhyme I just made up on the spur of the moment!

    That part of me is still there and manifests now and then, but, my serious and hard no sugarcoating perspective of reality around me is more prevalent, because I now see it as Bob Dylan wrote many years ago;
But you and I, we’ve been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
    The hour is getting late!

And it is doing just that, because we can see that far too many have stymied the hearts of men with their most sinister plans, stripping away joy and laughter making life nothing but a joke, on the people! Which is the evil one’s work of ruin; driving many souls to toss off all that God has provided as the greatest opportunity, so they will live selfishly and for the moments of all perverted pleasures or greed they can grab and take!

But like that adage, “take time to smell the roses” which is imperative; so too is laughter a worthy tonic for the heart and soul! Amen.

    Brother in Christ Jesus,
    Lawrence

      1. 🙂 Great, you’re welcome and glad you do because I do too and there are so many others; God planned everything for our journey and doesn’t want us to be miserable 24/7 that would be unbearable and insane!
I’m also getting a few laughs in today too because there is always something to laugh about or even at; LOL! Just now I laughed saying that, yea I can get a little goofy too if I want; no harm in it at all! Oh thanks for the memories; and the laughs too!!! 🤣😉👍 🇺🇸 🙏 😂😂😂 🙏
