SICK of IT

Okay, I’m old. Goodness knows it’s shoved in my face on a near consistent basis. Like a survey that lumps everyone 65 and over into one group: the last one. As if all of the 65 and overs are irrelevant to companies/marketing firms.

And this email from LabCorp made me want to press charges:

It’s fine, thanks.

Are you kidding me?? We get enough geezer mail from “Long Term Care” facilities and funeral homes, fer cripe’s sake!

In other news, I’m sick of the dadgum bamboo! Here we are again, trimming it into a mushroom…

Looks like I need to power clean the pavers again. There’s no rest for the OLD! Take that, LabCorp!!!

Good News!

…maybe she has no situational awareness?

Wonderful news regarding our IBD girl Badger!

We’ve been fighting for weeks/months with her diarrhea.***

It’s difficult to explain how stressful life has been, especially because her royal highness the Honey Badger doesn’t know how alert us to ‘outside’. I’d not known the other dogs did it for her… and with them gone she was alone in her mute confusion.

I tried teaching her different methods, to no avail. The one she finally settled on? Sitting at the back door and looking at me intently, those round eyes seeming to grow bigger with her need. You know, when I was in the room!

That resulted in accidents in the house and my watching her 24/7. Even at night I had to be alert, because if she got off the bed and I heard her nails hit the ramp… I jumped up too. Sometimes several times a night.

Suffice it to say my nerves were shattered. I was tense and constantly exhausted. Not to mention all the cleaning of the fluffy bum.

That’s why this is huge.

I’d been feeding Badge Stella & Chewy’s frozen raw for many years with no problem – until lately. Surfing the net something popped out at me: protein sensitivity. I’d been feeding her chicken. The meds weren’t working, so why not try something else?

Enter beef and lamb!

She has almost fully transitioned in TWO days!! And her poops are PERFECT!!

I believe the real hero of the moment is the bone broth. Full of good stuff, it’s helped heal her gut with amazing swiftness.

It’s a damn miracle and I couldn’t be happier or more grateful!! Thank you, Stella & Chewy!!

***Disclaimer: yes, we’ve been to the vet. Yes, we have all the appropriate meds and advice. No, I don’t work for S&C.

Mike’s Hobby

My husband Mike can’t stop working. His brain, anyway. A well known problem solver among his peers, the man’s mind works problems in his sleep. We’re completely different, of course. My dreams are frothy, happy things. A problem in my dream world becomes a nightmare.

He’s a genius, of course, and can do anything. Fix anything. So when the man wants to do something besides work… it’s a really good thing!

Enter woodworking. (I know; it’s work too.) He’s just getting started but instead of simply buying the tools guess what he’s doing…?? Making them, of course. And making stands for them to sit on and twirl around on…. yeah, genius.

When he saw me bookmarking risers in my Amazon list he proclaimed his intent to make one and I said ‘ok’ but had reservations. Silly me.

This is a shot of the riser he made me for the new bathroom.

Isn’t it sweet?

There have been other hobbies (that he tries to turn into work) but I hope he sticks with this one. After all, we have another bathroom to renovate.

Master Bath Complete

Realized I hadn’t posted a picture of the ‘other side’ completed. For not knowing anything, it came out… well, not bad.

Taken on an angle, so the mirror and lights look weird.

We call the vanity ‘Moby Dick’ (the white whale).

ALSO, the Thanksgiving cactus has apparently given up keeping track of the months…

Hair

Hadn’t even washed my face this morning when I took this, which accounts for the Lone Ranger look… but dadgum someone needs to give me a hair cut!!

Long hair on young people is wonderful; on old people it can be… ridiculous. I’m feeling ridiculous.

Last Weekend

I went crazy on the bamboo.

I miss the cover but not the mess.

Who knew bamboo was so messy? Forget the clean up, there are a ton of wee dead leaves to rake. I’ve still got the gift of planting the wrong thing in the wrong place.

On the other hand, if you live in south Florida… Seabreeze bamboo makes for a great divider no one can see through. Just… don’t let it get away from you.

Master Bath Redo

Before this I’d never done a renovation. Ever. Hadn’t picked things out like: tile, paint, vanities… this was an education. At every turn my contractor texted “do you have the…?” and I would panic and reply “what tile?” “what grout?” You get the idea. I felt like a fool.

Because of my ignorance we bought a bunch of stuff that really doesn’t go together, so I’m currently working on using decor to tie it together. These pictures don’t relay any of the decor (we don’t even have a mirror yet… and have never used the shower!) but pictures of the resulting mess are forthcoming.

Before:

All the plumbing and studs were replaced. I care more about that than looks!

…and after.

I do not want to clean all that glass!

The guest bathroom will be much better! We won’t do it until this summer, but I’m already working on it!

IF anyone lives in south Florida and needs a contractor, I know a good one. 😉
