Old stump of a Cabbage Palm (Sabal Palmetto) on the back of our property. The patterns are interesting..
One Year
Though incapable of remembering anyone else’s death date, I do my father’s. He’s been gone a year today.
There’s not been one day since that my thoughts haven’t turned to him. In pain, fear, joy… just wanting to share or get his opinion. This is remarkable since we only had three years together and only met once in person. And I didn’t even take his picture! (which still surprises and amuses)
But he’s my Dad and I love him dearly.
I miss you very much, Dad.
Heavens Above
Thank the good Lord I get up early!
Most are as shot.
They look pretty but are not overwhelming like the real thing. Not even a fraction of the beauty is represented here. I ran around taking pictures, forgetting knee pain, hip pain… saying “thank you” with almost every heartbeat.
Thank you.
Poor Hibby
My just-this-year-planted hibiscus is blighted. Can’t say with what, but the poor thing can hardly stand. Leaves curled, yellowed. It’s a broken thing, just bowed under the weight of… something.
I’ve tried my best but watching it suffer had me convinced that digging it up was the only recourse. Until yesterday, it shot forth one of most beautiful blooms I’ve ever seen! Is this a cry for help? Hope, it seems, springs eternal… even in the face of imminent demise.
My sister in law advocates feeding. “Everything needs to eat” says she, in that voice of experience we all seek when flummoxed. I shall give it a try.
