Texas light bulb bill would skirt federal plan

Texas could soon be in a position to turn the lights off on a federal plan to phase out certain light bulbs.

State lawmakers have passed a bill that allows Texans to skirt federal efforts to promote more efficient light bulbs, which ultimately pushes the swirled, compact fluorescent bulbs over the 100-watt incandescent bulbs many grew up with.

The measure, sent to Gov. Rick Perry for consideration, lets any incandescent light bulb manufactured in Texas – and sold in that state – avoid the authority of the federal government or the repeal of the 2007 energy independence act that starts phasing out some incandescent light bulbs next year.

“Let there be light,” state Rep. George Lavender, R-Texarkana, wrote on Facebook after the bill passed. “It will allow the continued manufacture and sale of incandescent light bulbs in Texas, even after the federal ban goes into effect. … It’s a good day for Texas.”

We’ve heard the phrase ‘chicago style politics’ innumerable times since Barack Obama became president. Obviously his hypocritical, partisan, mobster way of running the country is not only tolerated, but accepted… and God help us, even applauded… by a portion of the American people.

It’s still wrong.

Just last month the U.S. sent two Air force cargo planes to help Mexico battle back wildfires in the northern part of it’s country, fires that burned 386 square miles. It’s a move that West Texas Congressman Francisco Canseco (R-Fort Stockton) thinks is a hypocritical one by the Obama administration as Texas has requested the same sort of federal aid but has been denied it.

“386 square miles pales with the 2.5 million acres of land that have been burned and scorched beyond recognition,” says Canseco.

And Former FEMA Director Michael Brown thinks that a “snub” like this reeks of politics as he believes Texas deserves a similar response from the federal government.

“I think what’s going on is we see the Chicago style politics. I’m amazed that he’s put FEMA in this awkward position of not allowing federal assistance,” says Brown.

So far Texas has spent an estimated 70 million dollars combating the states wildfires.

That makes quite a statement about the man who would be king; like one of those petty dictators the United States specializes in removing… obama’s time will soon be up as well.

Even with that half a billion dollars in damage – President Obama and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have denied Texas a disaster declaration. FEMA officials say, even without that designation, the agency has given Texas 25 fire management grants – which reimburse firefighting expenses. Some politicians have questioned whether the President is playing politics with disaster relief – considering the testy relationship between Governor Rick Perry and the President.

Would the current administration play partisan politics with people’s lives? Damn straight they would… and are.
