Willow Run
March 10, 2011
Ford built a B-24 every 55 minutes in this Michigan plant even before Pearl Harbor.
Interesting piece of history! Wonder if it’s true that the motto ‘Built Ford Tough’ originated at Willow Run?
Discovery’s last launch
February 27, 2011
Software developer Neil Monday shot this footage through the window of a commercial airplane flying out of Orlando International… with his iPhone.
Cosmic Log also has some shots of the launch at a higher altitude, taken from an unmanned helium balloon.
After this trip, the shuttle will be heading for a spot at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, and you’ll be able to get a close-up look at the world’s most traveled spaceship.
I will miss it.
Hacker
February 24, 2011
My sister-in-law answered her phone today to find what had to be some sort of hacker on the other end.
“Ma’am, you’ve been downloading infractions that will result in the loss of your computer if we don’t help you. All I need is for you to hit the windows key and type in…”
“WHAT?? Who are you, exactly and why would you know what I download?”
“Because we’re from Microsoft and we know what you download”.
By this time I was on the other line with her, assuring the poor woman that her software IS legal and to get his particulars. She was in something of a tizzy.
When asked for his number so she could verify his identity, he hung up. I told her that if he calls back, tell him to go fark himself. Freaking hacker.
NOW. I want to know what that string would reveal about her computer. She thinks it was RENVTWR but that yields no results in a net search.
Be careful out there!

Science is wonderful.
I wonder how quickly this guy will get rich and the technology will subsequently vanish…?
Filter Forge
October 11, 2010
Joanie told me about a neat plugin for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements called Filter Forge this morning. Hundreds of cool filters and it’s supposed to be easy to create your own, but I haven’t tried that just yet.
There are scads factory presets for each filter along with individual sliders so that the number of changes are infinite. Apparently the community is constantly creating and sharing new filters as well.
I picked a random image and played. Hard. Here’s a sample…

I like it. Do I need it? Well, no. But I like it.
In other news…
LASSIE IS NOW ON HULU! Which just about blows weeding the garden out of the water…
Now, if you’ll excuse me, Timmy just fell in an abandoned well… and I’m grinning like a mule eating briers…
