I very nearly skipped right by Rothko, despairing over his many paintings of color boxes. They just do nothing for me.
But some of his work caught my attention; detailed surrealist paintings that make you wonder just what he was drinking…
I may be hungry, but there seem to be a lot of chicken legs in his work. And don’t think it’s escaped my notice that I’m still drawn to shapes and colors…
An interesting fellow, there’s an excellent biography of him at markrothko.org.

LD and I spent time talking art today, mostly spurred by an article about Banksy he was reading.
Art being something that is both without rules and yet informed by them, it’s all so subjective and amazing.
In other art news, my mom is getting up the nerve to do her first solo show! She was invited by a local artist who loves her work.
P.S. you want “what the hell was he drinking” kind of art? Bosch.
Awesome news about your Mom!
Hope the show is very well received!
Hieronymus Bosch? Holy moly! That man must have had a demon [or several] at him! It’s art, but I’ll give it a pass.
For some reason I like curves, colors and things that either mean little or that I can interpret myself.
Bosch does take a little getting used to. I like to look and find the lightness in his work. It’s there…just takes a bit of effort to find it.
Thanks for the congas on my mom. I will post photos of her work when it happens. I’m so proud of her! (Nerves aside, I think she’s happy about it now)
And I agree with you about art and being able to interpret it yourself. That’s what I like about it, too.
