A Realist, William Bouguereau often used mythological figures in his paintings. I first saw A Young Girl Defending Herself Against Eros when very young and it made quite an impression. Wonder if I thought puberty brought tussles with winged cherubs? There is quite a struggle going on, and not all of it physical.
Thanks to Joanie for the tip!

Sigh. Such beauty and such mastery of the medium!
I love Bouguereau without reservation.
Next assignment from me to you: Maxfield Parrish.
Oh, Parrish and I are old friends! Who can forget a Parrish sky?
One of my high points in Tulsa was seeing this work at the Philbrook – I had no idea it was there.

What an unexpected pleasure that must have been!
