Wayne LaPierre on the Real Consequences of Universal Background Checks
In addressing a crowd at the 2013 Western Hunting and Conservation Expo in Salt Lake City, Utah, NRA CEO and EVP Wayne LaPierre says that universal background checks are at the heart of the Obama administration’s anti-gun agenda. While universal checks may sound reasonable, they are aimed at one thing — registering your guns. “When another tragic ‘opportunity’ presents itself,” says LaPierre, “that registry will be used to confiscate your guns.” 2.23.13
It’s not about hunting. It’s about freedom.
Via Patti: Excellent video. Black conservative leaders discussing the NRA and the 2nd Amendment!

They are doing NOTHING that would take the guns from or limit the rights of criminals – only want will do so for law abiding citizens – hmmmm, wonder why they might want to do that?

maybe it is that tyrannical government part.
Exactly right! They’re targeting the good guys and arming the bad guys. Something sounds crazy or evil or both!
I may have replaced the wrong word…
I would be supportive for universal background checks – except for that one little complication. If they could set it up as a double-blind system similar to doing credit checks I might be willing to listen to proposals. I would envision something like a merchant having to send a customer’s info through the system and it coming back approved or not approved. The transaction can legally and physically continue only if it comes back approved, otherwise it is up to the customer to inquire about why they were denied if they wish to do so, just like a credit check. The catch should be that the info not be freely available to any law enforcement agency without a signed court order.
Unfortunately this is where gun control advocates have the rest of us over a barrel – by making us look like we won’t support something very reasonable. The problem is that it IS very reasonable – except for the high potential for misuse of the info and creating a national gun registry. There’s got to be a better middle ground.
We’re already subjected to background checks, even if we possess a ccw permit. They just don’t want private citizens selling to each other.
The real problem is that we don’t take care of our mentally ill.
Yup – and there is ZERO being done to work on THAT problem
Nope. Too… politically correct? In this age of “even dung beetles have rights” we’re screwed.
My theory is the Second Amendment says nothing about backgrounds. It simply says “shall not be infringed”

. Let the law deal harshly with anyone committing a crime with a firearm, robbery, murder, etc. Otherwise, the government has nothing to say.
And THAT should be our line.
The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals just decided that we have no right to carry concealed.
