President Barack Obama endorsed the right of same-sex couples to marry on Wednesday, a landmark pronouncement made in light of mounting pressure from gay rights advocates.
Obama became the first U.S. president to back the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry, a reversal from views expressed during the 2008 campaign, when he said he opposed same-sex marriage but favored civil unions as an alternative.
Obama told ABC News that, after reflection, he had “concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”
This shift in thinking couldn’t have anything to do with at least 20% of North Carolina Democrats choosing NOT to choose obama, could it?
OR the fact that 41% of West Virginia Democrats favored a federal inmate over four more years of obama…
Maybe it’s got something to do with some of his top donors, who happen to be gay – and angry – withholding donations.
Today’s announcement may have its roots in different motivations, but he just made at least some of his problems go away.

It will not be a plank. That’s for “the party to decide”.
It’s just another election ploy. Hopefully, the GOP will stick to the economy and not wade into that fight.
Totally! If he’d come out with the announcement in ’08, I would have believed him. Now, he’s lying if his lips are moving kind of thing.

Media people keep claiming this guy is so smart. Yet it seems that he could fuck up an iron ball with a feather duster.
Maybe he is looking at all the money Bill Clinton makes for giving speeches and figures that speechifying is a lot easier than governing.
This really isn’t a departure for him, because before he said he was against gay marriage, he was for gay marriage. He only claimed to be against it in ’08 hoping for the moderate vote.

Basically, I think his wealthy gay supporters were holding back. Now that they’re delighted with him once again, the purse strings will magically open.
BUT, what does it mean when the president personally believes in gay marriage? Not a damn thing, really.
This is drive a wedge moral fight round two. They tried the war on women but no one was buying it – so now this wedge is attempted. Distraction – it is about distraction. Get everyone riled up on one side or another of a small – or non – issue and hope everyone forgets about what is REALLY going on in the country.
Plus he’s hoping it will energize the college vote which came out huge for him the first time but is rather meh, been there done that this time around.

Smoke and mirrors, yes. Anything that can be used as a distraction, will be. Hell, he’s a politician; he’ll say anything to get what he wants, whether he believes it or not.

The more I think on it the more I like the idea of Obama evolving. He should only evolve like the Dodo bird.
