More of the Same

Record rainfall, when rain is part of our daily life in the aptly named “rainy season”? No biggie… until the bastard roof started leaking.

Our roofer, a man as critically vital to my health and well-being as my gynecologist and hair stylist, is swamped, but promises to come by tomorrow. Can’t get on the roof when it’s raining this hard.

Every time the rain gets a little worse I cringe…

Ugh. Had to put up with that in the last place we lived in – only it wasn’t just the roof that leaked, it was the foundation. Had a creek going through our living room during the last major Arkansas monsoon because of drainage issues at the back of the house.

Oh, crap! Now that’s bad news… can you ‘total’ a house like you can a car?

This is a very small leak [drip not gush] and I think I know where it’s leaking… the flat roof over the Florida room, same place it leaked last time, just the opposite end.

      Trust me, I’m grateful it’s not a gusher! ;)

While that’s certainly true, it was sure good to talk to you this evening!

Did you tell Folly I said hello?! :)

Well, I now have the soft spots in the flooring fixed from the last couple of big leaks we had, not roof leaks, praise the Lord but from when the water heater bit the dust and where Linda Lou pulled the plumbing loose that time she fell in the shower and broke the hot and cold water lines. It took a couple weeks before we could get THAT one fixed and it was a big mess. Well, it could be worse. It wasn’t but a few generations back that my kinfolks lived in a soddy. I don’t know what happened to that old letter about how pleased those folks were to finally get a wood floor in the 1890s.

My maternal grandfather lived in a shack, but it did have a wood floor. We visited him there once; toilet accommodations were in an outhouse and a bath consisted of a bowl full of rusty well water. When it rained I went outside, shed my clothes and took a bath. I was young.

Before that he lived in a fruit stand, though. Dirt floor.

We here in the 21st century have it made, really….
