Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Diamond Jubilee today. England’s monarch for 60 years, her life has been given in service to her country. Not one to romanticize royalty, nevertheless I admire this lady.
She loves horses and dogs – especially corgis.

Princess Elizabeth married the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947.

King George VI died on February 6, 1952 and Elizabeth ascended to the throne. When asked what name she would take as queen, she replied “Mine, of course”.

I love it when she smiles; just cannot help myself.

Long may she reign.

Congratulations to Her Majesty. Too bad her heir is such a nitwit.

I keep hoping she’ll bypass Chuck the Nutter and name William as heir to the throne. Probably too much to hope for, though…

I have a lot of respect for this woman
The sons… not so much

Exactly! The sons… not so much.

my understanding is that she actually is not afforded the luxury of by-passing the nit wit – i suspect this is why she will remain queen to her last breath. and why shouldn’t she? never understood the constant drum beat of how she should step aside for chuckie – or wills for that matter. i am not aware of this having, at any point, being the way english monarchs pass the crown…
i’ve always admired her quiet class and dignity.

Ah… didn’t know how those things work. And why shouldn’t she remain queen instead of being delegated to Queen Mum status? I hope she does persevere. 85 is a venerable age, but I wish her many more years ‘in the saddle’. So to speak.

Did Obama send her a pink PlayStation Portable to mark the occasion?

He probably ignored it.

I do admire her so much. Love her bling. Oh, good Lord, I love her bling! (BTW…I’m descended from the Royal Stuarts of Scotland. If all of the UK were to be blown off the face of the earth, I’d be in line to be Queen. Now…to figure out how to make the UK disappear without the bling getting damaged…)

Ah, then you had ancestors at Culloden! [not to mention previous battles]
It must be exciting to know your family’s history!

And the ones that made it to America wound up in New Orleans…one died falling off the beer wagon there…seriously.
