A simple exit, yet so powerful, as the gate closes behind them…
Waging war in Iraq cost us the lives of good men and women from all over the globe. Was it worth it? I believe toppling Hussein’s regime was worth war, but he was chased off in March, 2003 and subsequently captured in December of the same year. Eight years ago.
So, the troops battled insurgents and helped build the Iraqi military and police forces. And along the way tried to win hearts and minds. I pray they did; that the people of Iraq remember our efforts to aid them and those positive acts somehow help our cause in the future.
God does not shirk from war, but I am not a fan. I love and pray for the people who make it their life’s work to defend us, though. To those who come home this Christmas and those who do not: Thank you. We owe you everything.

As I said, this administration has no honor. We should have left with dignity after an official handing over ceremony and with our troops escorted out by tanks, armored personnel carriers and Apache gunships.
Instead they were ordered to sneak out under cover of darkness like deadbeat tenants doing a midnight move. I am disgusted at the way we left, but not by those involved who were doing as ordered. There was no excuse for it.
Thanks to all our military and civilian personnel who sacrificed over the last nine years, especially those who paid the ultimate price. There is nothing but honor THERE.

I’m with Patti. I do not think it will take a year, though. I think it’s already happening. I believe that alSadr and the other stooges of Iran are already on the move, and have been since late January, ’09.

Well, we can’t stay there forever…. or could we? I know there’s a small contingent left at the embassy, but did we even get a base out of all this?
