It’s taken me ten years to snap to this, [go ahead, I laughed too] but Fall is our plant frenzy season. In Houston it was Spring, of course. But down here, Fall is when our weather changes for the better. IF it will finally stop raining… and the garden centers are carrying new plants. Folks are putting everything from impatiens to exotic new strains of orchids into the ground. Yes, orchids grow wild around here. In the ground. I know.
My first Fall was a bit of an eye-opener; as Bree and I made our rounds through the neighborhood I was constantly surprised at the new beds of impatiens going in! And begonias, and pretty much everything you’d think Spring was designed for… so I guess I’m a slow learner.
But look what I just got at Home Depot! Black elephant ears!

And ground orchids!!

It takes so little to amuse me.
And… in case you were wondering… these nasty things still live…

Well, it IS Halloween.

I usually do it in February, but there is nothing more fun than calling family and friends in the frozen north to ask how they’re doing, send Pink Flamingos for their yards (they stick them in the snow!) and after hearing about the cold, share that I just came in to cool off from planting new landscaping in the yard and have to go back to weed, water and mulch.
Then I laugh when I hear the dial tone.
Yeah, I’m evil like that…it’s just how I roll.

I had to climb onto the lawn tractor for the first time in a couple-three years today. The neighbor that was mowing both our lawns with my tractor is in Arkansas taking care of her dieing father and sickly mother. (The neighbor is in her mid 70s, I don’t even want to think how old her parents are.)
Meanwhile her big dogs are digging everywhere, in both yards. I got so tired of it that I busted one of them in the ass with a shot capsule from one of my .45s. The fine shot doesn’t have the mass to go through the fur and skin, it just stings ‘em like Hell. Anyway, that was late last night, today they were both inside the fence in their own back yard. The dog is walking, with no limp so I’m not going to feel guilty. I’m gonna do it again, if they come back, too. I’ll just keep the shot toward the ass so as to not put out an eye.
It’s a helluva note. I go over there and make sure they have food and water. and then bust ‘em with shotshells. Speaking of backwards.

No more than putting out salt licks and corn for deer…

I’m jealous in a way. I do love my snow (I hate cold but love snow…annoying dichotomy) but everything is dead or dying around here.
Gorgeous shots, I need to take a class on using my camera…

You take great shots, Kim! All I do is point and shoot, anyway…
