According to the Huffington Post, the Obama administration is working on gun control reforms, to be unveiled shortly.
Half a year after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), the Obama administration is set to release a series of reforms to the current gun law, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Thursday.
The reforms, which are being crafted by the Department of Justice, come after a series of meetings with relevant stakeholders in the Second Amendment debate. But in a nod to the difficulties of getting legislation through a Republican-run House of Representatives, only executive orders or administrative actions — and not an actual bill — are expected to be handed to Congress.
Administration officials were coy on the specifics, from the reforms the Department of Justice would recommend or when it would actually make those recommendations.
“The president directed the Attorney General to form working groups with key stakeholders to identify common sense measures that would improve American safety and security while fully respecting Second Amendment rights,” Carney said at Thursday’s briefing. “That process is well underway at the Department of Justice with stakeholders on all sides working through these complex issues and we expect to have more specific announcements in the near future.”
Just how near? Carney would only say “not far in the future.” Another administration official said weeks would be an appropriate measurement.
Does this mean he wants to ‘reform’ a constitutional amendment by executive order? Or the individual laws surrounding it…? And what do they mean by ‘stakeholders’? Each and every American is a ‘stakeholder’ in the 2nd Amendment!

Obama must be really confident of his chances for reelection or the weakness of the Republican field to be doing something so politically suicidal. Then again, even executive orders can be declared unconstitutional. It’s called checks and balances.
Nothing prevents the bad guys from acquiring guns, of course. It’s been proven that they’ll do it even in countries where gun ownership is outlawed for citizens. That’s why we say guns don’t kill people; people do.

I was driving home from getting my sunroof fixed (it was recalled) when I heard Limbaugh talking about some DOJ report where the Porkulous Bill allotted ten million dollars to the parent program Fast and Furious, from which Gunwalker grew. Then that same summer they got six million dollars. Rush kept on adding it up until, when I got out of the car it was over fifty-three million dollars.
Let me repeat:OVER FIFTY-THREE MILLION DOLLARS!!! Taxpayer money going to guns for the drug gangs to drop at the scene of massacres so that Mexican authorities could send the serial numbers to the ATF proving that America supplied the guns to druglords.
Over 250 Mexican cops and political figures killed, so far. Two US citizens, so far, possibly more. We know some of those guns are showing up in the hands of illegal immigrants in the Phoenix area. Probably more places than that but no Democrat will admit to it.

I sat next to this lovely woman on the flight from SLC to PDX and we had the most interesting conversation. My favorite quote of the entire trip: “I don’t understand why people are so confused over who Obama is! Some are saying he won’t touch guns, he’ll regulate the ammo industry. It’s a neat conceit, to play with words in that way. It’ll devastate from either end. If you are a defender of strict interpretation of the Constitution, it’ll be thrown back in your face that it never said anything about munitions, only arms. Yes, it’s silly and over-the-top but I’ve never seen Barry and the Gang ever back away from outrageous assumptions of power.
And it won’t matter is true debate breaks out about “intent,” the die is already cast in the mind of the mindless Ascendant Class: guns don’t kill, bullets do. Oh how neatly is slips off the tongue! As I saw over at American Digest, it’s another comedian who is driving Presidential policy.
I think the home loaders have seen that maneuver coming from a mile away. As have the rest of us, who have packed in thousands of rounds per weapon.

The notion that anyone could parse it and regulate the munitions industry, is absurd. A well-armed people can’t ensure the security of a free state without munitions for those arms. I doubt the Supreme Court will see it any differently.
