The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation’s oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.
“When the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) completed their successful campaign to convince the Ontario government to end one of the best scientifically managed big game hunts in North America (spring bear), the results of their agenda had severe economic impacts on small family businesses and the tourism economy of communities across northern and central Ontario,” said Phil Morlock, director of environmental affairs for Shimano.
“Now we see NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and the administration planning the future of recreational fishing access in America based on a similar agenda of these same groups and other Big Green anti-use organizations, through an Executive Order by the President. The current U.S. direction with fishing is a direct parallel to what happened in Canada with hunting: The negative economic impacts on hard working American families and small businesses are being ignored.
WWF, Greenpeace, Defenders of Wildlife, Pew Environment Group and others produced a document entitled “Transition Green” shortly after Obama was elected in 2008. What has happened since suggests that the task force has been in lockstep with that position paper.
Then in late summer, just after he created the task force, these groups produced “Recommendations for the Adoption and Implementation of an Oceans, Coasts, and Great Lakes National Policy.” This document makes repeated references to “overfishing,” but doesn’t once reference recreational angling, its importance, and its benefits, both to participants and the resource.
As more evidence of collusion, the green groups began clamoring for an Executive Order to implement the task force’s recommendations even before the public comment period ended in February. Fishing advocates had no idea that this was coming.
Perhaps not so coincidentally, the New York Times reported on Feb. 12 that “President Obama and his team are preparing an array of actions using his executive power to advance energy, environmental, fiscal and other domestic policy priorities.”

The American Sportfishing Association reported back in October about the sweeping changes proposed by the Obama Administration in regards to the sport fishing industry:
A sweeping oceans and Great Lakes management policy document proposed by the Obama Administration will have a significant impact on the sportfishing industry, America’s saltwater anglers and the nation’s coastal communities. The draft policy, the Interim Report of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force, issued on September 17, will govern federal Pacific and Atlantic Ocean waters and Great Lakes resource conservation and management and will coordinate these efforts among federal, state and local agencies. This past June, President Obama created the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force, led by the Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), to develop a draft national policy and implementation strategy for conserving and managing the United States ocean territory and the Great Lakes.
Now it looks like the Obama Administration is going to move ahead with these restrictions.
Is it possible that the “GREEN” people have no idea what this means? Not only is this going to stop our fishing and tourism industries; but it will hand the seas over to the Japanese!!!! How much is Obama getting for this “behind closed door” deal?

Well it’s time to set the record straight! Most people would love to blame the world’s problems on him just because it’s easier than doing a D@MN THING! Fact: It is just proposed legislation and nothing more! These same environmentalist have been trying to wreak havoc on our way of life for years. Burning cars that don’t get good mileage, chaining themselves to tree to prevent the construction of a bridge etc. But is that the Presidents fault, not even close. I am a avid fisherman, and the one thing I hate is increased restrictions on fishing. But let’s analyze why the restriction are coming down in the first place. Ask yourself are you the guy or gal that took 4 to 7 fish past your limit, or refused to use a barbless hook? Or maybe are the person who dumped gold fish in the best trout fishery in the state? And lastly are you the person who took 7 blue marlins, on a boat with 4 people, when you were supposed to release them in the first F-ing place? I’ve seen these things happen first hand. I’m not saying I agree with the legislation, because I don’t, but no way in hell can you blame this on the President! We need to take some responsibility for our actions and those of the person next to us! We are in bad times, and I doubt anything that would take away jobs would even make it to the President’s desk! With the Asian Carp getting ready to take over the Great Lakes you can forget about sport fishing that place much longer!

how can any human of even below average intelligence entertain the idea of having the government in charge of one more thing. I swear any governmental agency involved that gets involved in normal human life pretty much wrecks it. I am not prepared to pay $30,000 to fish so that 17 people in Washington D.C. can sit around and get paid to figure our another way to get more from me. I feel a little like “Boxer.” I am sick of working so that the pigs can sleep indoors. Once we lose a freedom, we may never enjoy it again. I want to see a dollar figure on what this little maneuver will cost. The money spent by fishermen in this county is huge. Our government has become too far out of toutch with main stream working americans, the ones borne here and willing to work; with what jobs we have not sent over seas.
I have had too many things taken away from me as my taxes have doubeled in about a decade; so as far as fishing goes I will continue the sport reguardless of what President Obama puts into law.
Catch and realease sport fisherman who uses circle hooks and does everything I know how to preserve, maintain and protect the sport I love.
All those “I’d rather be fishing” type of bumper stickers are gonna give way to “I’d rather sleep with the fishes than vote Democrat.”

According to http://www.keepamericafishing.com the fight is to “ensure that recreational fishing is recognized and promoted as a distinct ocean, coastal and Great Lakes activity”. The simple fact is that no one is saying “ban fishing” it is if it should considered “protected” under Federal law. Geez, you would think that before you got all of those pistons fired up you might read something first.

My understanding is that Obama is issuing this as an executive order – therefore HIS idea (or rather he following the UN). As an executive order it does not have to “pass” anything.
Part of the solution? The solution to what? Some “environmentalist” imagined crisis? The only thing being solved here is their desire to commit yet another encroachment on our personal liberty.
As to not taking away jobs? He has certainly tried very hard to take away jobs and has to date done nothing to actually ease the job situation – “it is a good day, we only lost 36,000 jobs today” – PALEESE, good day? There are a tremendous number of unemployed Americans who might argue with you on whether or not Obama has helped the jobs situation. The job crisis is primarily caused, at this point, by uncertainty due to the many policies he has either threatened to implement or is in the process of trying to get passed. His policies without exception are anti-business, anti-manufacturing, anti-job. And before you (trolls-kbtoys) start in on how we call the O names or how we have no right to call him “un American” (and I have heard no one make that claim BTW) remember that his first year was spent running all over the world bashing this country – the result of his apology tour is that the world’s opinion of the US has deteriorated as documented by the poll done by The Democracy Corps-Third Way (a left leaning group, not a right leaning group).

Along many areas of our coasts and within the Great Lakes, biological diversity is in decline due to overfishing, introduction of invasive species, and loss of essential habitats from coastal development and associated human activities. Unsustainable fishing (e.g., overfishing) remains a serious concern with consequences for marine ecosystems and human communities.
So therefore, Bubba should not be allowed to go fish his trout stream on the weekend? Yeah, that will for sure solve the problem.

The world has changed, species have migrated one way or another for as long as this world has been turning – species have disappeared and species have emerged – that is how we come to this place in time. This is not going to change. Humans did not cause species to come or go before man showed up on the scene and we cannot stop them from coming and going now. Of course we effect the balance of nature – we are part of nature. We too are a species, we too exist and have a right to exist – We do impact the world, and until one way or another we are no longer part of the world, we will continue to impact the world. Every “solution” suggested or enforced by act of man impacts the world – both for positive and negative. This is reality. You people with your “environmentally friendly” ideas impact as much to the negative as the positive. Your CFLs are going to increase the exposure to mercury, give a fraction of the light as an incandescent bulb, cost 3Xs as much, and does not last more than a fraction of the time claimed by those making money pushing them on us – your solar panels require storage batteries that do not last and are a major threat to the environment when they must be disposed of – your hybrid cars are causing massive destruction of environment in Canada where the raw materials required for their construction are being mined (not to mention the massive carbon footprint required to manufacture and deliver to market, or the massive failure of said vehicles to function safely), your windmills are killing birds, your farming practices would lead to world famine if forced on the world – not to mention the tremendously increased exposure to e-coli and other food born pathogens.
We are all interested in preserving the planet, to the true best of our ability. We all want clean air, clean water, healthy and plentiful food – the difference between us and you is that we want actual solutions to real problems – not feel good easy solutions that make us THINK we are better than everyone else because we use an expensive light bulb that doesn’t provide much light, don’t bathe or flush, and drive a tin can or an unsafe overpriced status-mobile.
