It’s cold down here in Margaritaville, colder than it’s been in the 8 years we’ve lived in this house. Usually the temps will drop for a night or two, but rise during the day, leaving the house still tepid at night. Not this time.
And the first time I needed heat in all these years, none was to be had. We have A/C, of course, but evidently ‘package’ units don’t automatically come with heat. Truthfully, I never even thought about it until yesterday.
So I’m going to Lowe’s for a space heater. Don’t worry, if it needs much more than plugging in it’ll have to wait until Himself comes home from work!

Yep, our furnace is now running and because Terrazzo flooring is such a great conductor for the cold under the house, the thermostat is set at 71 to keep the house moderately comfortable!
I didn’t keep the thermostat above 68 when I lived in Indiana, for goodness sake! And they used the word “flurries” and “wind chill” to describe the temps for the next few days. And I get no love from the family in Indiana…go figure.
7. January 2010 at 11:27 am
Yeah, we’ve got all this lovely tile flooring that keeps the house so cool in the summer…
‘Furnace’. What a lovely word!
7. January 2010 at 11:40 am
Got another one for you too…”HEAT PUMP”. Yep, had to run that (off and on) for a day and a half until the hvac guy came out to find out why (a) the furnace just ran without getting warm in the house and (b) once it did kick in and get warm, it didn’t turn off (kind of important, thanks).
Turned out that some parts of the unit were FROZEN SOLID because a trigger switch kept kicking on (when it should not have) AND we had the wrong thermostat in the house for the unit (no kidding?!). So $350 later, the house warms up to temp (without having to use the heat pump thankyouverymuch) and kicks off when it reaches temp (what a concept).
Glad I didn’t get rid of my sweaters, turtlenecks and sweatshirts from Indiana!
7. January 2010 at 12:31 pm
Ooooohh… aahhhhh…. ‘heat pump’. Sounds divine! At least you don’t have to use it now.

Here’s something to warm you up…
I like AC/DC. Got this song in my haid (head). TNT. Had to fix it. My way for Jihadi’s everywhere,Janet Napolitano, Obama, and Eric Holder.
TNT by AC/DC (*a JihadGene re-write)
oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi
See me fly out of the airport
On your security monitor screen
Out for all the virgins I can get
If you know what I mean
Africans to the left of me
Europeans to the right
Ain’t got no gun
got no knife
Don’t you know…airport security ain’t right.
(Chorus)
Cuz I’m in
B. V. D’s
My Dad Reported: “His head ain’t right!”
With my Jockey’s
Allah will win the fight!
Security
What a load
My Under Roos
Watch ‘em Explode!!!
I’m terror-trained , shaved, and easily seen
I’m a wanted man
Public Enemy Number One
I got a bomb in my pants…Understand ?
So let T.S.A. scan-up your daughter
And NAPOLITANO pat-down your wife
Leave open the front door
And run for your life
Obama’s back in town
What a joke all-around
(Chorus)
Cuz I’m
no Somali
I’m Nigerian
Lit my junk
To end this Detroit flight
Lit my balls
Wishing I would explode
Oh they burn
Allah… help me, you toad!!!
(Guitar Solo)
(Chorus)
T.N.T. oink oink oink
T.N.T. oink oink oink
T.N.T. oink oink oink
T.N.T. oink oink oink
T.N.T.
I’m Lawyered-Up (oink oink oink)

7. January 2010 at 12:34 pm
Ack! UP TO? No, thanks!! I’ll just stay here and… dance to stay warm!
7. January 2010 at 12:08 pm
Here in the great white north, our thermostat is set to 65 degrees. A little cold, but an extra heavy sweatshirt and another pair of socks helps.
And ya’ll know how much we in the north are enjoying your misery don’t ya?
Do they even have space heaters down there or did they have to import them in from northern lowes?
7. January 2010 at 12:36 pm
Now you’re just being snarky, QW!
Um… I don’t know where the heaters came from, but I don’t care… I just hope they’ve got some left!
Y’all can enjoy our misery all you want… next week when I’m wearing shorts and flip flops again, we’ll talk…
7. January 2010 at 12:52 pm
Well maybe week after next Pam. And I’m supposed to go camping with a girl scout troop January 22-24. It’d better warm up by then or I ain’t going!
7. January 2010 at 1:23 pm
Eeeek! No way! Tonie and her family just went camping and though the temps were only in the 30′s, I thought ‘No way in bloody hell’.
Hope it warms up for you!

Important Weather Bulletin: Asheville, NC is experiencing a heat wave – after a morning low of 18 (with NO wind chill!) we are currently at a balmy 39! The bad news – lows for the next three mornings will be 15, 12, and 13 – highs of 24, 28, and 30. Potential for snow over the next three days.
Thanks Pam, yes a very very long road – hope the end of the tunnel is soon, but not at all sure that it is…
7. January 2010 at 3:12 pm
My pipes would have burst by now! I’m beginning to love my low temps… they’re not as low as they could be…
7. January 2010 at 3:08 pm
Guess who’s scheduled to be the “outside” greeter at Church this Sunday?..
Forecast temp of 19 F. Without windchill.
Looking for my ski bib…

7. January 2010 at 3:12 pm
Poor Dave! I don’t think there’s enough clothing to keep you warm in that kind of weather!
7. January 2010 at 3:19 pm
temps like that, I bet its Al Gore coming your way
7. January 2010 at 3:50 pm
Nah, they wouldn’t allow Al the cross the border into Texas…!
7. January 2010 at 3:52 pm
Al Gore ain’t got the junk to cross the border into Texas
7. January 2010 at 3:54 pm
No, ma’am!
7. January 2010 at 3:42 pm
Linda Lou did not wake me up to go to my neighbor’s funeral, she said something about 11 degrees. I hope she only meant the windchill but you never know… I simply heard no more. I did not exactly faint but my brain quit working. We are having one of those famed Texas Blue Northers. High wind and effing cold. Sky so bright blue it hurts to look at it. Note to self: Self, stop trying to put seed in the feeder for the birds wearing flip flops.
When I went to bed I had to straighten the covers some and that put Bingo the Pug under the covers. Usually when that happens he squirms out. Not this time.
Linda Lou always gets up earlier than me and lets Princess out. When I got up today she was inside. When I got into my recliner for my coffee and quiet time she jumped up with me, along with Bingo. So much for quiet time. How the HELL did we train her to be a lap dog?
7. January 2010 at 3:52 pm
11 degrees is plenty cause for some extra snuggle time, whether it’s with the spouse or the dogs! LOL!
Daisy isn’t an under-the-covers girl, either… but guess where she’s been sleeping? Heh…
7. January 2010 at 3:46 pm
Just to cheer you a little
High today is 22 degrees.
We also have bunches of global warming falling from the sky, suppose to get 3-5 inches of global warming but I am thinking it could be a little more then that.
7. January 2010 at 3:53 pm
It was really beautiful here today; highs in the 60s and a nice big sun to warm one up… mmmm….
7. January 2010 at 6:58 pm
It’s been below freezing for about 8 nights in a row here in Charleston and there’s a chance of snow tomorrow. Our heater is sounding more like a freight train every day, so no telling when that’ll go belly-up!
7. January 2010 at 7:54 pm
…thus proving it can always be worse!
No space heaters to be found. Oh, well…
