Poor Bree

January 23, 2010

Breagha

We were outside playing ball when I noticed blood on Bree’s right rear paw. Brought her in right away and washed it with soap and water. The pictures are right after the foot bath and before the neosporin.

You can’t really tell that anything is amiss here:

This is a better picture of what might be wrong….

Even though this one shows the extent of the damage, I don’t know what happened or why.

She’s been licking between those two toes for the past week and I did take a look once or twice, but saw nothing wrong. If I had to make a guess… a lick granuloma? Never seen one like this, around the dog’s nail bed – or one that bleeds. She could have hurt the ‘finger’ and been trying to soothe it with licks… and they caused the raw areas. No wonder she didn’t seem to want to walk very far! (Don’t worry, I didn’t make her!)

If it’s not better by Monday I’ll take her to the vet.

    Ouchie! Poor Bree. :(

Poor baby! Pepper treed a cat in a palm tree and ran halfway up after it. Of course the palm tree, being soft, caught her superfluous toenail and ripped it out. Poor girl nursed it for months, it seemed.

If Bree’s foot isn’t infected and she’s otherwise happy, she’s prolly alright. Still, it makes one cringe just to think of a pulled nail! Ouch!

I’m sure you’re right; she really doesn’t seem concerned… not even trying to lick the neosporin off!

Poor Pepper! That had to hurt like a bitch… :(

  3. Mrs. Who Says:

Oh, these poor puppies! Bless their hearts.

(Gabby says she hopes Bree feels better soon. Should she send some fresh sweet-potato dog biscuits to make her feel better?)

    • pam Says:

Bree says thanks for thinking of her and would you be so kind as to share the recipe with her mom? ;)

      • Mrs. Who Says:

Don’t have a recipe…buy them at a local small-town grocery store. One of the residents makes them. Our dogs go wild for them. PLUS, it’s square-shaped and keeps Gabby from swallowing them down without tasting a bit of it.

But we’ll send you a bag if you want! Just shoot me an email with your addy.

Thanks so much, Mrs. Who! But I just did a search and the place where I buy dog food sells some… also Petco. Not the homemade kind, like y’all buy, but I also found this recipe! Looks like fun and yams are packed with good stuff… I’m so glad you mentioned them!

 Sorry to hear about Bree. Hope she gets well soon!

    • pam Says:

Thanks, VW! I’m sure she’ll be okay… but you should see how silly she is with some wrap on her leg. What a drama queen! ;)

    Poor baby Bree.

    Owee!

Could be she jammed her toe on something and cut it a little and then licked it into it’s current state.

Lance sends kisses for Princess Bree’s toe and says there is nothing wrong with being a drama queen

    • pam Says:

Could be… It does look better; I’m keeping it clean and medicated and she’s leaving it alone.

      Slobbery kisses to Lance! :bone:

Oh no! The poor baby puppy girl! She must be on a pillow, with her injured paw elevated and will need an attendant to carry her too and fro and tend to her every whim.

Oh wait, that was my Mom and our dog Missy, who conned a grown adult into carrying her up and down stairs for 2 weeks. Did I mention she was a full sized Lab?! Even better…ah that story never fails to make me giggle!

Boo Hahn and Darla send Bree cookies, scritches and snuggles. :bone: :bone: :bone: :bone: :bone:

    • pam Says:

Is there anything we won’t do for our furkids? Well, yes. I wouldn’t carry HRH up and down stairs! LOL!!

Great story, just wish there were photos to go with it! Oh, Bree thanks you all for the cookies, scritches and snuggles. Especially the cookies. Here are some back: :bone: :bone: :bone: :bone:
