Coakley and the First Amendment

Politics

Democrat Martha Coakley drew on the specter of separation of church and state in a radio interview with Ken Pittman… while telling devout Catholics that they probably shouldn’t work in the ER.
“You can have religious freedom; you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room”.

Separation of Church and State.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

The First Amendment prohibits the establishment of a national religion by our government – and guarantees our right to worship as we wish. The Supreme Court has, over the years, interpreted this in many ways and now many religious -or even pseudo religious- symbols have been cleansed from federal, state and local government buildings.
After all, nobody wants to hurt anyone’s feelings… or have a bloody fight with the ACLU… but where does separation of church and state begin and end here? Who does it protect/alienate? I’ve often thought this amendment has been wielded in a very heavy handed manner, designed to separate not church and state, but the people from morality and our very roots.

Oh, and GOOD LUCK Scott Brown!

ya think we could find a way to cast votes for him? :hide:

i do hope that bitch goes down in flames – Dems will still have their 60 votes, they’ll just march Biden in – but the message should scare the cram out of the dems – and linguine spined republicans to for that matter.

I do not really understand how someone can go through Grade School, Jr. High, High School, College and Law School and then a few decades working for the effing government in MAss, without twigging to the fact that the State she is running in is crammed to the gunnels with Catholics. :pirate:

At which point in her life was the lobotomy?

  5. Quality Weenie Says:

Looks like the election of Scott Brown might not even be needed, the dems are now thinking about troting out that special voting thing and pass Obamacare with just the 51 votes needed for that special voting thing.
