Television

I’ve been watching FOX’s Glee since it began this season. Sweet, sometimes silly, nearly always fun.

Until now. Last night the writers made pregnant teen Quinn’s [played by Diana Agron] parents into alcoholic, fake, ignorant, hard hearted assholes who would kick their daughter out of their house a little faster because ‘Glenn is almost on’.

Oh, did I fail to mention that they’re also supposed to be conservative Christians? Who love Glenn. Heard his name more than God’s. It was the love of God that moved them to toss their daughter out onto the street and the love of Glenn that made them hurry up about it.

Her parents could have simply been written as alcoholic assholes; the caricature would have been perfect. But they had to demonize both Christianity and ‘Glenn’.

They just couldn’t help themselves… Why is that?

EDIT: After a quick search, Newsbusters has this posted:

Here is more proof there is a vast chasm between Fox News and Fox Entertainment in Hollywood. In Wednesday night’s episode of Glee, a heartless Christian dad character is – of course – a big Glenn Beck watcher. The biggest liberal joke on the series is the pregnant cheerleader Quinn who leads the “Celibacy Club,” who is preparing for the chastity ball, but the secret of her pregnancy gets out at the dinner table.

I don’t have the precise Beck quote, but it was an “ooh, Glenn Beck’s on” moment. TV Squad summarizes: “But the whole thing brought to light a lot about Quinn’s home life: her dad watches Glenn Beck, is a heartless loser, and her mom won’t stand up for her. That’s all the important stuff.”

In fact, she is thrown out of the house, because that’s apparently what Beck-watching Christians do when their teens get pregnant. They’re uninvolved, clueless alcoholics who don’t really know their children.

The first commenter of TV Squad was upset: “For a show that preaches at its core tolerance, equality, love and acceptance, to not judge a person by what they are but to judge them by WHO they are, Glee showed tonight in a sad and predictable moment, that it applied that correct and proper axiom to everyone BUT Christians, Conservatives and Republicans.”

Love the last paragraph! Yes, homosexuality abounds on the show; one of the Glee members is openly gay and the lead singer ‘has 2 daddies’ at home. Diversity is celebrated! Unless you’re Christian, Conservative or Republican.

Goodbye, Glee.

Fox TV used to be pretty conservative, but the last 3-4 years they have become true hollywood liberals.

Started with Family Guy, then 24, now all the shows are conservative bashing. And what is worse it’s in places that it doesn’t even make sense to bash, it’s like they throw the line in as an after thought.

Keep wondering when American Dad is going to fall off to liberal land

American Dad is liberal; it makes fun of conservatives, namely its star, Stan.

Or that’s the way I see it. But I watch it because I KNOW what they’re doing; that’s the damn premise of the show.

As long as Hollywood keeps projecting these stereotypes, they’ll keep misunderstanding mainstream America. That’s a good thing in a way, because it keeps them confused as to why their messiah Obama keeps dropping in the polls. Why gay marriage won’t pass. Why the healthcare bill won’t (please dear God) get passed. They’ll call conservatives intolerant and stupid…

Let them delude themselves…they’ll have to work that delusion over when Obama is kicked out of office in the next election.

I think they are making it quite clear, they do not want us to watch their shows so the government will have to bail them out – The government will give them more money than they can make on their own. This is the new American Way – I keep finding more reasons to play online poker instead of watching the TV – Plating stacked cards is less frustrating then politics

You mean there is something on television beside old cowboy movies and NASCAR? Hmmph. Who knew?

I have limited choices on TV here (no cable) and you know what? I kinda like it like that.

Yeah, we still only operate on antenna, so basically I’m down to House, Lie To Me… um… Bones… can’t think of any others…
