I just bought a webcam. Anyone have experience with video chat? Which platform is best… Skype, Windows Messenger, AOL Messenger or even Yahoo?
Skype is P2P, so using them means they use you; bandwidth and processor. I’m not really down with that, so looking for something solid – or can I hop from one to another until finding something I like?
TIA!

We use Oovoo at the office. I know we pay for the service, since we typically link up to 4-6 people at a time. However, I think they still offer 2-way service for free. Seems robust enough – no ads (at least they didn’t, and the premium service definitely does not).

Thanks; I didn’t know about Oovoo!

I listen to Leo Laporte who really like Skype for 2 way conversations using web cams. However, Skype does not support more than 2 way vid. thus Bitteroot’s company using Oovoo. I think for a 2 way Skype is very clear and the video has good sync. That’s usually what throws people when they do video chat. Good luck!

Thanks for the input, Teresa!
Just read the Google chat is really good quality… might try a few and see which one we like better.

Oh, forgot to add that Skype to Skype is free so you could try both and see which you like more.
