Between my busy schedule of cleaning out kitchen cupboards, playing Mafia Wars and chatting with my sister in law via Skype, The Season has completely overtaken me. And not in a good way. Not at all the warm, fuzzy, ‘Turkey next week!’ and ‘Christmas is almost here!’ glow that we all aspire to around this time of the year… but with the far less positive ‘oh, shit’ feeling. As if the death shadows from the movie Ghost are nipping at my heels.
No doubt, I need to get a move on. So, the flurry of catalogs and web sites begins. So far I’ve bought one gift; a birthday present.
The category that stymies me the most is the one that should be the simplest: Kids. When the wee ones are young just about any baby doll or truck will do, but as they grow things get more complicated. Gifts become less about a doll or bike and more about systems and peripherals.
It’s incumbent upon Moms to manage gift giving on behalf of their child and spread the good word among friends and family.
Now, Moms could keep a running inventory of game systems and games owned as well as those desired… but Moms as a rule are busy folk and don’t have time to count. Thus I believe that everyone over the age of 5 should have an Amazon wish list. Think of how easy that would make things for family and friends!
Of course, that would be one more thing for Mom to keep track of…

I agree – I have one and my son does too. Then I don’t have to get asked what I would like – if someone wants to buy me something, they just look at my list and pick something. Simple.
That’s what I’m talking about! Yeah…! Someone gets it! LOL!
We have an Amazon wish list, but the family won’t even look at it and then buy stuff we don’t want which then we have to return and go through that hassle.
I think it’s just a form of torture they enjoy putting us through.
It’s not bamboo under the fingernails but it *is* torture! Maybe you could have cards printed up…?
I love wishlists. I have an even bigger list (or should I say lists) on B&N. Actually, both sites have more than one list. I use them to remind me what I want and also to track prices.
Multiple lists; that’s the way to do it! Label one ‘Christmas’ and friends and relatives are all set!
I’d think it would be easier for everyone…
Amazon wishlists rock!
And please, please, please DO NOT give me a gift certificate – even to a tech store like Best-Buy, or gawd-forbid, a restaurant!! It’s like being given a chore.
If you feel compelled to give me some form of money, please make it the universal “greenback” CASH kind that I can spend ANYWHERE and that might even save me a trip to my bank’s only ATM within a 25-mile radius. THAT I would appreciate! (Yeah, I could bank with a larger bank that offers more ATM’s but I don’t like being just another number in the queue. My bank always greets me with a smile and an eager-to-serve attitude, and that means so much more.)
Seriously, even though I frequent Wal-Mart on the order of several times a week, the sight of a Wal-Mart gift card just peeves me… I don’t know why. Maybe ’cause when I step up to the counter to buy a cup of coffee and a pack of gum after having to prepay at the pump with my GAS CARD, (thanks a lot all you worthless drive-off assholes!) I’ll open my wallet to find some old receipts, my debit card and a friggin’ WAL-MART card mocking me… Then when I go to use it at Wally-World, it’s just ANOTHER step in the checkout process because I’ll never buy EXACTLY the amount the card is worth. Gah!
And sorry for the rant, but DAMMIT I feel bitchy today…
No, no. I feel you!
I never buy those things for adults… just too impersonal… but the grandkids love ‘em, so I did get them one every birthday or Christmas… until one day when we were down there visiting, out to eat and OD said that one of the kids needed to redeem their Target gift card.
Off we went… to hell. OD just gave me a look… and I never bought another one!
Oh, I did get someone an Outback Steakhouse giftcard one time…
Woohoo! Look what just landed in my inbox!
Amazon shmamazon – give me AMMO and shooting gear! :nana:
:nana:
Awesome! Amazon just lost out!
You should see LD’s wishlist. It scares me.
I must see this wishlist! Seriously!
