Site news

Things being what they are, i.e. frigged up beyond all comprehension, I’m back a bit short of what I was. Have mercy, I never want to do this again but one thing I can tell you?? The folks at Arvixe.com are saints. Ready to help an idiot out any time of the day or night!

Beannachd is gone and I’m no longer hosted at mu.nu, which I’m sure many of you figured out… Pixy is working his fingers to the bone and I hated emailing him and again when he got absolutely nothing out of the deal. I’ll always be grateful for the years of love and service, but it’s time for me to stand on my own two legs.

I can’t get the database backup to load without errors, so I might be starting fresh… has anyone used the import feature with success?

Thanks for sticking around!

EDIT: Oh, crap. The posts are all old. WTF?

Oh, no…is all your stuff lost? I’m so sorry!

  2. pam Says:

Well, I’m not sure… The database wouldn’t ‘take’ and when I tried to import my posts all that came out was old stuff. So… I don’t know what I’ll do at this point…

    Thanks for coming by…

Holy guacamole…. all lost? Don’t give up, there might be someone out there tech-savvy enough to help with search and rescue. No, it ain’t me, but I’m just here to try to cheerlead.
And if it IS gone… we still have you for new stuff and we LIKE it.

glad to see you back, was worried you went and took yourself out of the blogosphere

LeeAnn, after the day I’ve had… that just sounded so good, thank you!

Thanks, QW. I was worried, myself. ;)

    Ms. Pam…

All this morning you had me worried you had used “fucktard” one too many times and the Obamessiah’s thought police had carried you off to be re-edumacated…

    What a relief…

Wait, this is really you isn’t it?…

LOL! Your flag is right here, Dave! :texas:

Glad to have you back! Mu.Nu was frustrating enough from a reader standpoint, I can’t imagine the problems hosting with them…

As for the database – it’s more than likely all there, but how to access it is the problem. If you still have access to the old site, you need to use mySQL or whatever equivalent database management tool to export it (without passwords) then re-import it at the new site. WordPress import is very particular – the import file has to be near flawless for it to even attempt success. You’re better off to find someone who knows enough about databases to do it outside of WP.

I’ve poked around broken databases and managed just enough dumb luck to keep Mrs. Who’s site in business, but that’s only because I know she’s well-armed and I have to share a room with her… in the dark!

I used phpMyadmin for the database backup and followed the WP instructions precisely. But maybe I didn’t hold my mouth right… ;)

The ironic thing is… the issue that finally pushed me over the cliff? Doesn’t work here, either.

Ain’t computers fun. Oh well, at the very least you can blog and that’s a good thing. :D

  13. Bitterroot Says:

What issue? Anyway, I will say the site zips along rather nicely! I like the new “Twelve Gauge surprise” banner, too. :)

  14. pam Says:

Thanks, Bitterroot! The tagline is from the James Taylor song ‘Mona’ about a pet pig who got too big… ;)

I’ve exported and imported so much stuff I’m tired of it. Which database are you trying to export and where are you importing it? I may be able to help.

  16. pam Says:

    I’ll email you… :D
